Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM)

Cerebrospinal Fluid Abnormalities in ADEM include:
- Increased cell number (usually 20-100 /uL); in 20% of cases cell count may be normal
- Total protein is increased in 80% of the cases
- Unique oligoclonal IgG bands are usually absent (in contrast to Multiple Sclerosis) or ar only transiently present (also in contrast to Multiple Sclerosis)

Our laboratory offers fast and efficient analysis of the following compounds in CSF for the diagnosis of ADEM:

- Routine CSF analysis (cell count & differentiation), glucose, lactate, total protein
-Oligoclonal IgG bands by iso-electric focussing & immundetection
- Quantitative intrathecal synthesis of IgG, IgA and IgM
